Calm Sea
  • Imran Tabet

Each wave a loving embrace.

Inspiration: watching a coastline near a temple.

The formless is stronger than form.

The transparent stronger than the opaque.

The delicate stronger than the coarse.

Water stronger than rock.

The ocean stronger than the cliff.

Atom by atom, the ocean conquers the cliff.

Until it cracks open its hard shell.

Until rocks fall into it.

Always welcomed by the ocean.

It might take eons for a cliff to become ocean.

But the ocean is patient.

The ocean is loyal.

Each wave a loving embrace.

It throws itself, unabashed.

Onto the cliff.

It draws back, never ashamed.

And throws itself again.

As if it had never done so before.

Love is the ocean.

Our sense of self the cliff.

Love is constantly trying to find a way to express itself through us.

Love is constantly trying to dissolve that which contains it.

But we have developed a bias, that only exists in mind.

That love is clingy, weak, dependent, wanting, needy.

That is not love.

Love is patient and strong like the ocean.

When you see a cliff, you might think that the cliff is stronger. That, however, is only because as we look at it, we look at it through the concept of time.

The cliff is already the ocean.

Be it in a million years.

It already contains the cracks the ocean will bring.

It has already dissolved into it.

After the ocean came for it.

A billion times over.

When we look at each other, let us see beyond form.

Beyond the body and its attributes.

Beyond our job and its attributes.

Beyond our clothing and its attributes.

Beyond our sense of self and its attributes.

Let us see the unwavering honesty,

With which our ocean comes for our cliff.

Let us see that we have already conquered it,

To become formless again.
